From the majestic evergreen forests of the Western Ghats to the scrub jungles of the plains, a wide variety of habitats exist with very typical flora and fauna, some of them endemic to the region.
The Western Ghats, which covers about 60% of forest area of Karnataka, is recognized as one of the 18-mega bio-diversity hotspots. It has a recorded forest area of 38720 km2 which constitutes 20.19% of the total geographical area of the state. These forests support 25% of the elephant population and 20% of the tiger population of India.

Salary:
- Deputy Range Forest Officer: Rs. 12,500 – 24,000/- PM
- Range Forest Officers: Rs.21,600 – 40,050/- PM
- Forest Guard: Rs. 11,600 – 21,000/- PM
Eligibility Criteria:
Deputy Range Forest Officer: Bachelor’s Degree in B.Sc or B.Sc (Forestry) from a recognized university
Range Forest Officer: Bachelor’s Degree in B.Sc, B.Sc (Forestry), B.Sc (Agriculture), B.Sc (Horticulture), B.V.Sc, B.E Engineering from a recognized university.
Forest Guard: 10+2, PUC, ITI, CBSE/ISC, NIOS/HSC, 3 years Diploma, 2 years Diploma in JOC, JLDC, JODC.
Age limit(As on 08.05.2018): Minimum Age limit: 18 years
Selection Process:
The selection process of all posts (DRFO, RFO & Forest Guard) will be based on Written Examination, Physical Standards Test, Physical Efficiency Test, Interview and Medical Examination.
