Indian Air Force AFCAT 02/2019 for the courses commencing in July 2020 for grant of Short Service Commission (SSC) in Flying Branch and Permanent Commission (PC) / Short Service Commission (SSC) in Ground Duty (Technical) and Ground Duty (Non-technical) Branches & Online applications are also invited for NCC Special Entry Scheme (For grant of PC/SSC in Flying Branch). The detailed eligibility and application process of AFCAT 2019 are given in below.

- NCC Special Entry (Flying Branch) – 10% seats out of CDSE vacancies for PC and 10% seats out of AFCAT vacancies for SSC

Job Location: Across India
Pay Scale: Rs 56,100 – 1,10,700/Month
Eligibility Criteria:
Flying Branch:
- Minimum of 60% marks each in Maths & Physics at 10+2 level.
- Graduates (Three Year Course) in any discipline from a recognised University who have attained minimum 60% marks or equivalent OR BE/B Tech (Four Year Course) from a recognised university with minimum 60% marks or equivalent.
- Cleared Section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institute Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised University with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
- Final Year students are also eligible to apply, provided they do not have any backlog at the time of AFSB Testing and produce Degree certificate issued by the University as per the date stipulated in the advertisement.
Ground Duty (Technical):
Aeronautical Engineering:
- After completion of Engineering degree or while in your final year/semester of Engineering
- For both Men and Women. Permanent Commission (for men) / Short Service Commission (For men and women)
- Marks – Must have scored a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent in any one of the listed disciplines.
- Final year students are eligible to apply provided they do not have any present backlog at the time of SSB testing and they produce provisional/ original degree issued by the University as per the date stipulated in the advertisement.
Ground Duty(Non-Technical)
Administration
- Graduate Degree (Minimum three years degree course) in any discipline from a recognised university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent or cleared Section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
Logistics
- Graduate Degree (Minimum three years degree course) in any discipline from a recognised university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent or cleared section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
Accounts
- B. Com. degree (Minimum three years degree course) from a recognised university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
NCC Special Entry (Flying Branch).
- Minimum 60% marks in each in Maths & Physics at 10 + 2 level.

- NCC Air Wing Senior Division ’C’ certificate and validity of the certificate would be two years before the date of advertisement.
Meteorology Entry:
- Post Graduation Degree in any science stream/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Geography/ Computer Applications/ Environmental Science/ Applied Physics/ Oceanography/ Agricultural Meteorology/ Ecology & Environment/ Geophysics/ Environmental Biology. All candidates should have scored a minimum 50% marks in aggregate in all papers of Post Graduation put together (provided Maths & Physics were studied at Graduation level with a minimum of 55% marks in both).
Note: Candidates who are studying in the final year/semester Degree course and are yet to pass the final year degree examination can also apply provided candidate should not have any present backlog and should have secured a minimum of 60% marks upto the last semester/year for which results have been declared upto the time of submission of application.
Age Limit:
- Flying Branch – 20 to 24 years as on 1st July 2020
- Ground Duty (Technical/ Non-Technical Branches) – 20 to 26 years
AFCAT 2020 Selection Process:
- All applicants whose applications are submitted by due date will be called for AFCAT test at one of the examination centres mentioned at para 14 (b). Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT) will also be conducted for Ground Duty (Technical) branch along with AFCAT. AFCAT will be for two hours and will contain multiple choice questions on verbal ability, numerical ability, reasoning, general awareness and military aptitude. Sample question papers and syllabus of AFCAT/ EKT is available on IAF career website www.careerairforce.nic.in. EKT would be for 45 minutes and conducted immediately after AFCAT. It is mandatory for the candidates opting for Ground Duty (technical) branch to pass both AFCAT & EKT.
- Candidates who are short-listed on the basis of AFCAT/ EKT(AFCAT 2018) will be called for further testing at one of the Air Force Selection Boards (AFSBs) at Dehradun, Mysore, Gandhinagar or Varanasi. Candidates who opt for flying branch can opt for Dehradun, Mysore and Varanasi only.
The AFCAT 2020 testing would consist of three stages as given below:-
- Stage-I. Officer Intelligence Rating Test along with Picture Perception and discussion test will be conducted on the first day. Stage-I test is a screening test and only those who qualify would undergo subsequent testing. All Stage-I qualified candidates would be subjected to document check to ascertain their eligibility for the branches applied for. Candidates who either do not qualify in Stage-I or do not meet the required eligibility criteria would be sent back on the first day itself.
- Stage-II. Psychological test, Group Tests and Interview would commence after document check for the next five days.
- For Flying Branch. Computerised Pilot Selection System (CPSS) would be administered to recommended candidates only. This is once in a lifetime test. Candidates who have failed the CPSS/PABT in an earlier attempt or a Flight Cadet suspended from flying training at Air Force Academy will not be eligible to apply.
